How it Works: The Basics
Step one:
Use this Google form (link), or contact me on social media, to tell me what you’re looking for and/or send me some pictures - as many or few as you’d like!
Step two:
I’ll get back to you soon with some mock-up ideas and price points for your piece. If you like one, great! On to step three.
If not, we’ll keep at it! You can give me feedback, request changes, or even send more pictures for me to work with, until we find a design and price which works for you.
Step three:
I’ll send you an invoice for a 50% down payment to cover material costs. As soon as you pay, I’ll order the materials and get to work!
Once I’m done, I’ll send you a photo of your finished piece, and invoice you for the remaining 50%, plus any additional shipping costs if necessary. Then your piece will be on its way to you!
More details:
-
We’ll work together during the consult and do our best to make sure you’re happy with the design of your piece before then, but it’s certainly worth asking! Some changes are easier to make than others - it depends on how much I’ve already done, and how much/what part of the piece might need changing.
-Have I already finished the part in question? If not, changing the plan should be easy! If I have, though, it gets a bit more complicated. Replacing already-woven rings is time consuming, and while I’m happy to make small edits at any point up until shipping, if you’re asking me to swap out dozens of rings I may need to charge a small additional fee based on how much I’m reworking.
-Do I suddenly need a large amount of a different color? This is doable, but I may need to charge you for the new supplies, and there’s a good chance that ordering them will postpone finishing your piece by a week or two.
-This hasn’t happened yet, and with the care we take during the design process there shouldn’t be a need for it, but just in case: if you do decide after work has started that you want huge changes which require a brand new plan (changing the image entirely, or using the same image but changing the scale), I will need to charge an additional fee proportionate to the amount of work which must be scrapped, as well as covering the cost of any additional rings.
-
Inlays are best displayed against a dark background! Light or light colors behind the piece can detract from the image. Diffuse lighting also tends to look better than bright, direct light.
There are a number of finishing options available. The two that I can provide for free are:
1) I ship you the piece as-is, with no additional mounting or modification. I can send instructions for you to assemble one of the other mounting options yourself, if you wish, or you might choose to display your piece laid flat on a surface like a desk or table.
2) I put a row of larger rings at the top and include a thin metal rod for simple hanging. I can also send you instructions for assembling the mount you see in my portfolio, if you want.
Other options will increase the cost of your order, due to the use of extra materials, labor, and/or shipping costs. The most popular of these are:
3) I sew all edges down to a black cloth backing, making a patch which can be otherwise framed, mounted, or sewn onto clothing. This generally ranges from $20 to $75, depending on the size of the patch.
4) I build you one of the mounts shown on my website: sanded, black-painted plywood with hooks for the supplied metal hanging rod, all measured and made specifically for displaying your piece. This is likely to cost around $50-75 extra for labor, materials, and shipping.
If none of these speak to you, let me know! We’ll figure out what works best for you.
-
I’ll ask for your preferences on both of these things ahead of time!
Progress: You can get photo or text-only updates as often as you’d like, or leave it a surprise!
Privacy: I’d love to be able to share your piece on my website and social media, and/or more privately with my Patreon followers, but your comfort takes priority. I do promise regular livestreams to my Patreon supporters, but I can work on a different project during those times if you want complete privacy.

If you’d like to surprise your loved one with the promise of a finished piece soon to come, we can put together a plan and get the process started!
Otherwise, it depends on your definition of “last minute”, but proooobably not. Between the design process and needing to custom order supplies for each project, even the smallest projects usually take at least three weeks from start to finish.
That doesn’t mean we can’t make your piece for the next birthday, holiday, or event down the road, though! Shoot me a message, and let’s see what we can do!

The short version? I say this in the most friendly and forgiving way possible: if you don’t pay, I don’t do anything.
Here’s what I mean:
If it’s the initial 50% down, no worries! I’ll put the plan aside and wait until you’re ready before ordering the rings. No pressure.
If it’s the 50% upon completion, I can’t ship your piece until your balance has been paid, but so long as we’re in touch (by which I really just mean a check in every few months) I’ll still consider the piece set aside for you. If I don’t hear from you for six months, though, I’ll eventually consider the piece up for sale (If applicable, that is. This doesn’t include portraits of human loved ones, for example.) As long as it’s in my possession, though, you can still claim it by paying your invoice.
